The TV show is on next week

OK folks, here it is! Starting next week, the Trading Spouses shows w/ our friends, the O'Briens. Look out for Nate the Great on bass! Maybe some other Wilders may pop up, too. I think it's on at 7 pm central time... is that right, brophil?

I'll have some stories to add about last week, coming soon. Today, I am burrowing my way through a bunch of emails from the last week.

Thanks everyone for the continued faith and support. I'll say more soon...

  1. Here is a review by sweetP of the new songs. As a copy and paste.

Feel free to share with folks that I heard the CD roughs and heard it
the best way- driving out in the country. There were several times I
was not even conscious of my driving the music took me away to another
place and time. Here's what I love about the sound: 1) what is
uniquely 'Wilders' comes clear and consistent throughout all recorded
works 2) Betse gets to do some layers and over dubs of herself that can
not be done live (where two fiddles can speak to each other!) 3) Ike's
voice is at his best where it is passionate and his real 'essence'-
there's a truth in the song. At times he allows his voice to be
fragile which is not heard or seen in much of contemporary country. 4)
as always Ike's diction is impeccable where the story/narrative of the
story is never missed 5) as always Ike's work vocal dynamics are fun at
times and moving at others- he has really come to know his vocal
instrument 6) the harmonies, which I am generally the most critical of
because this is what I love in most music, sounds good and I
especially think Nate rocks where he comes in on Happy that Way 7)
Phil's solos are smart where they push and play with the melody adding
the perfect amount of mood and character to the song 8) new songs
sound consistent with old sound 9) one song in particular Ike has
written and wonderful vocal bridge to a Hank song (at least I think it
is Hank)-----I never thought something so well written could be added
to be another artist- it's brilliant.-----Okay I guess I could go on
    and on

    Bye now,

    Carrie

  2. Can't go Friday, so I won't be there.

I use the Chinese New Year date for the Chinese "Zodiac" because... um... it's the Chinese "Zodiac" and not the Western one. I mean, if I just randomly decide that Leo's are born during the last 3 days of January because I like to go vaction in warm climates for those three days, that doesn't make me an actual Leo, does it?

Just a thought. Attack my opinion at will.

So has anyone read any good books lately?

  3. Okay, I read my last comment at school during my plan time today, and I realized it could come across more snarky than I'm-not-good-at-getting-at-what-I'm-trying-to-say-y... the latter being what I was going for. I could have just said, "...because I'm a pedant," but that part of my vocab was out of commission last night.

Anyway, the Chinese New Year is Wednesday or something. Anyone have plans?

  4. I'm still alive, been on the road a lot.

Actually that thing about the skunk with the bottle on its head is entirely relevent to Wilders. Can't remember, it was either Nate or Phil wandered around in exactly that condition for about an hour and a half at one of the early Winfield festivals before they could get booked. I seem to remember Ike breaking it off with a crouquet mallet, or maybe the red ball. That was a strange time with a lot of misshappen reality. It's the one where Ike says I yodeled at the cop, but to this day, I don't remember that.

  5. I promised Vieta and LVJ that I would get on here, and I've been threatening to tell the truth about LVJ. (I am LVJwife.) I told Vieta last Saturday in Lawrence that the truth is that.....I have no idea what the truth is about him and we have been married for 23 and a half years. I think it is rather obvious from what he puts on the blog what he is like, but I was trying to think of the one word that would best describe him. So, I opened the thesaurus and started with the word "weird". The choices were...strange, odd, bizarre, peculiar, eerie, creepy, and unusual. Those are all pretty good. Then I looked up the word "crazy" and found....nutty, wacky, and screwy. Those are pretty good, too. I'll have to give this more thought.

Vieta, you are a very special lady. Did you know if you look up the word "special" in the thesaurus, some of the same words are listed there as the ones for the word "weird"? Seriously, though, I don't think you are weird (although it might explain why you and LVJ get along so well). You are the best kind of special. You are so comfortable to be around. LVJ has to drag me out of the house to go to things sometimes (I am uncomfortable around people I don't know and crowds can make me very anxious), but I am really glad I came to Lawrence and got to meet you.

Hey everyone, the Wilders were absolutely WONDERFUL in Lawrence (and that's a big compliment coming from a DISCO LOVER..that's what LVJ tells everyone about me).

Vieta and I were talking about talent and that what these four talented people more than that..they have passion and they perform with their hearts and souls. It sets them aside from the rest. Keep it up, Wilders!

Betse, hope you are feeling better.

    That's all for now.

    Connie

  6. I'm back. I've been away for a few and tonight I'm house- and dog-sitting and taking a moment to catch up before hitting the sack.

Hope everyone is doing fine. I won't be in Tulsa. Hope to comment more in the near future.
